What Is Mixing & Mastering — and Why It Matters

Before your track is released to digital service providers (DSPs) like Spotify, Apple Music, Beatport, or Amazon Music, it needs to go through two crucial production stages:

🎚️ Mixing — balancing levels, EQ, compression, panning, effects, and tone to ensure every sound sits perfectly in the mix.

🎛️ Mastering — finalising the overall sound, dynamics, and loudness so your track translates consistently across all playback systems — from club sound systems and car stereos to phone speakers and streaming platforms.

Even great productions can fall flat if they aren’t mixed or mastered properly. That’s why AudioWave Records invests in high-end equipment, precision-engineered studios, and trained professionals who understand the science and art behind commercial sound.

Our Professional Mixing & Mastering Team

AudioWave Records works with a dedicated network of world-class audio engineers and producers who specialise across multiple genres — including house, drum & bass, garage, hip-hop, pop, and experimental electronic music.

Each engineer on our team has real industry experience, having worked with both underground and chart-topping artists. They bring years of technical expertise, critical listening, and creative understanding to every project.

Our engineers use premium-grade tools such as:

  • Analogue outboard gear (compressors, EQs, limiters) for warmth and depth

  • Top-tier plug-ins from Universal Audio, FabFilter, iZotope, and Waves for precision control

  • Professional acoustic environments tuned for accurate frequency monitoring

This ensures your mix doesn’t just sound good — it sounds professional on every platform.

Mix & Mastering for AudioWave-Signed Artists

For artists signed to AudioWave Records, quality control is a non-negotiable part of our process. Every master submitted for release goes through a comprehensive internal review before being sent to distribution.

Our A&R and engineering teams perform an in-depth analysis of the following:

Loudness Levels (LUFS) – ensuring the track meets DSP and broadcast standards.

Dynamic Range – confirming the right balance between punch and clarity.

Stereo Imaging – checking phase alignment and width for all playback systems.

Frequency Balance – making sure the mix isn’t muddy, harsh, or unbalanced.

Headroom & Limiting – ensuring the final export leaves proper headroom for mastering and avoids digital clipping.

If a submitted master doesn’t meet our technical or sonic quality benchmarks, we’ll provide constructive feedback — and, where needed, perform a complimentary re-mastering service at no extra cost before distribution takes place.

This ensures that every AudioWave release aligns with global DSP standards and the high level of quality our label is known for.

Mix & Mastering for Independent Artists

You don’t have to be signed to AudioWave Records to access our engineering services.Independent artists and labels can also book our in-house team for professional mixing and mastering, tailored to their sound and goals.

Our engineers work closely with each client to achieve a competitive, polished result — whether it’s a single, EP, or full album.

Available services include:

  • Full multi-track mixing (up to 100 tracks per session)

  • Stem mastering or stereo mastering

  • Re-mastering for re-releases or re-distribution

  • Mastering for specific formats (DSP, vinyl, CD, Dolby Atmos)

  • Creative consulting for arrangement or sound design improvements

Artists receive both streaming-optimised and club-ready versions, ensuring consistent playback across all environments.

Mastering Standards for Digital Service Providers

Each DSP (Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, etc.) has its own technical delivery standards — and failing to meet them can result in reduced loudness, distortion, or even rejection.

AudioWave’s engineering team follows industry-approved mastering targets, including:

-16 LUFS

-1.0 dBTP

YouTube / SoundCloud

-13 to -14 LUFS
